The dressing room holds great significance as it serves as the space where you prepare yourself before embarking on your day. Therefore, it is imperative to enhance and elevate this area. A well-designed lighting arrangement is just as crucial as having a stunning dressing table with a clear mirror. A superior dressing table light is indispensable for individuals who spend a significant amount of time in front of the mirror. Consequently, it may be necessary to revitalize your dressing table with a fresh approach, as relying solely on natural light may not suffice.

Once considered an opulent piece of furniture exclusively reserved for the elite, the dressing table has now become an essential component of modern bedroom suites. A remarkable dressing table adds both character and functionality, ensuring that everything from jewelry to cosmetics and self-care essentials remains impeccably organized. Lighting plays a pivotal role in selecting the perfect vanity. Making the right lighting choice for your dressing table is of utmost importance. In situations where your bedroom lacks sufficient natural light or your dressing area is confined to a limited space, ambient lighting comes to the rescue. There are various additional techniques to make your dressing table area shine while enhancing the overall lighting.

What truly distinguishes a dressing table? We all have a clear answer. It is because dressing involves more than simply getting dressed; it entails meticulous attention to one’s hair, jewelry, and most significantly, makeup. For these tasks, a plain dressing table would not suffice.

Set Your Dressing table in Front of Natural Light

If you are applying makeup in a room with a well-lit window that receives abundant natural sunlight, it is advisable to place your table and mirror directly in front of the window rather than at the side or opposite it. Placing the table in any other position may result in undesirable shadows, which can lead to uneven blending.

In situations where it is not possible to position your makeup mirror optimally, the option of covering the window with curtains or blinds can be considered when the lighting conditions are not ideal. Although natural light is typically flattering, it is better to rely on artificial lighting instead of contending with shadows.

Positioning Your LED Dressing Table Lights

Positioning your LED makeup lights is crucial for achieving optimal lighting while applying makeup. Similar to placing your makeup table in front of a window, it is recommended to position your LED makeup lights directly in front of your face. This ensures even distribution of light and eliminates any unwanted shadows. Additionally, if your space has an overhead ceiling light, it is advisable to turn it off while doing your makeup and rely solely on the lights you have set up at your makeup table.

Multiple Makeup Lighting Fixtures

If you are using lamps as lighting fixtures, it is important to consider the type of light and its placement. The light source should ideally be at face level, as placing it above or below can create shadows that may affect your makeup application.

Utilize Wall Sconces

Wall sconces are a versatile and stylish addition to your bathroom or dressing table. With their compact size and simple design, they can be easily installed in various locations without overcrowding the room. For optimal lighting results, it is recommended to use sconces in pairs at a height that frames your face on either side of the mirror. Adding wall sconces to your dressing table will provide additional lighting and create a more even light source.

Add Sparkle with Fairy Lights

To add a touch of sparkle to your vanity, consider using fairy lights. These lights can be used to illuminate the area around your dressing room mirror and offer a warm and softer light. Fairy lights are easy to set up and can be combined with other light sources to create a cohesive lighting unit that is both functional and visually pleasing. They come in various sizes and shapes, allowing you to customize the lighting to suit your needs. Using fairy lights will create a magical ambiance that adds a vintage and romantic glow to your space.

Accentuate with String Lights

Another option for illuminating your dressing table or bathroom mirror is LED string lights. The placement of these lights around the mirror depends on your preference. You can install string lights around the edges of a full-length mirror to give any reflection a warm glow or use them to add personality to a vanity mirror. String lights can also be used to accentuate the trim of the space or create a decorative design on the wall opposite a large mirror. While similar to fairy lights, string lights are often larger and offer a more reliable light source. However, positioning them effectively may require more effort.

Consider Floor Lamps

Floor lamps are another option for lighting your makeup table. They are larger than table lamps and provide a stronger light, allowing you to see every detail of your face while applying makeup. Despite their size, they can be used with soft light bulbs to avoid causing any discomfort or squinting. Floor lamps are a practical choice for achieving a crisp and clear image during your makeup routine.

When it comes to yoga, it’s not just about the physical aspect, but also about mental health and mood. Lighting plays a crucial role in creating the right atmosphere for your yoga experience.

Different types of yoga practices have specific lighting requirements. Some practices, like energetic and physically demanding exercises, benefit from cool and bright lighting that sets the mood for active movement. On the other hand, meditation and relaxation-focused practices require soft and cozy lighting to create a calm and peaceful ambiance.

To ensure that your yogis can practice comfortably, it’s important to choose the ideal lighting for your yoga studio. Here is a comprehensive guide to help you select suitable lights.

Types of Yoga Practices and Their Lighting Requirements

Different types of yoga practices have specific lighting requirements that can enhance the practitioner’s experience. When designing the lighting for your yoga studio, it is essential to consider the two major types of yoga: dynamic and meditative.

Bright Light For Dynamic Yoga

Dynamic yoga practices, such as Power or Vinyasa yoga, involve energetic movements and challenging postures. To support these intense sessions, bright lighting is recommended. Bright lights help stimulate energy and create an environment that promotes physical activity and focus.

Soft Light For Meditative Yoga

Meditation is about the peace of your mind and soul. And when the word peace knocks your mind, a cozy and warm light setting is the first thing that will knock your mind. The yellowish tone of warm light brings a calming meditative yoga, on the other hand, focuses on calming the mind and connecting with the soul through practices like meditation and breathwork. For this type of yoga, a soft and warm lighting ambiance is preferred. Soft lighting helps create a sense of tranquility and relaxation, allowing practitioners to immerse themselves in the practice.

Smart Lighting Control

If your yoga studio provides dynamic and meditative yoga services, you are surely in a dilemma in choosing light fixtures. Dynamic yoga demands cool lights, whereas meditative yoga needs a warm setting. So what to do? yoga, consider installing color temperature adjustable light fixtures. LED smart bulbs, like the Lepro AI smart bulb, offer the convenience of adjusting the lighting from warm to cool tones with a remote control. This eliminates the dilemma of choosing between cool or warm lighting and allows you to cater to different yoga practices.

Color-Changing Lights for a Dynamic Atmosphere

For a more dynamic atmosphere, consider incorporating color-changing light bulbs. Lepro B1 smart bulbs offer 16 million color options, allowing you to customize the lighting based on the specific yoga form or chakra exercises. The LightGPT AI algorithm in these bulbs can recognize voice commands and facial expressions, recommending the perfect lighting effects for your needs.

Additionally, the group control feature of these smart bulbs enables you to manage multiple lighting fixtures in your studio, providing flexibility and control. You can easily switch between different lighting modes for various yoga exercises or share control permissions with studio members.

By understanding the lighting requirements of different yoga practices and utilizing smart lighting solutions, you can create a harmonious and immersive environment in your yoga studio that enhances the overall yoga experience for practitioners.

Importance of Lighting in a Yoga Studio

Recognizing the importance of lighting in a yoga studio is essential for creating an optimal environment for practitioners. Unlike other forms of exercise, yoga focuses on the connection between the body, mind, and soul. It aims to provide a sense of peace and tranquility.

Lighting plays a significant role in enhancing the yoga experience by creating the right mood and ambiance. Natural lighting is highly recommended in yoga studios as it provides a soothing and refreshing atmosphere. When the lighting in a studio is inappropriate or inadequate, it can make practitioners feel uncomfortable and disrupt their concentration. This can have a negative impact on the reputation of the studio.

On the other hand, an ideal lighting setup in a yoga studio can create a warm and inviting environment. It sets the tone for a positive and engaging experience for yogis. The right lighting can help create a sense of calmness, relaxation, and focus, allowing practitioners to fully immerse themselves in their practice.

By prioritizing the lighting in your yoga studio, you can enhance the overall atmosphere and encourage increased engagement from yogis. A well-lit space creates an inviting and harmonious environment, attracting more practitioners and contributing to the success of your studio.

Every building’s safety plan must include emergency lights. In the case of a power outage or other emergency, it is intended to give illumination. Your building can be ready for any disaster by being aware of where to place emergency lighting and comprehending its function.

Emergency Lighting: What is it?

A sort of lighting system called emergency lighting is intended to provide illumination in the case of a power outage or other emergency. Typically, this kind of illumination consists of battery-operated lights that turn on in the event of a power outage. When the power goes out, the lights often include an automated switch that activates them and illuminates the area until the power is restored or until another light source is located. Exit signs are another component of emergency lighting systems that aid in directing people out of a facility in an emergency.

Emergency Lighting: Why is it Important?

The importance of emergency lights cannot be overstated. First and foremost, it makes sure that residents may leave a structure securely in case of an emergency. People may become lost and unable to find their way out without sufficient lighting, placing them in danger of harm or worse. Emergency lighting also reduces anxiety by making issues visible in otherwise chaotic and gloomy circumstances. Finally, it makes sure that when reacting to an emergency, firemen and other first responders can quickly find exits and find their way around the building.

Where Should Emergency Lighting Be Installed?

It’s crucial to take your building’s architecture and intended use into account when installing emergency lights. In general, you should install emergency lights in any locations where people could be present in the event of an emergency, including lobbies, stairwells, exits, and shared spaces like conference rooms and lobbies. Install exit signs above all building exit doors as well so that people may quickly find their way out in the event of an evacuation.

Summary

By providing illumination and assisting in directing people out of harm’s way as swiftly and securely as possible during emergencies, emergency lighting is crucial to maintaining building safety. Your building may be made ready for any emergency circumstance by knowing where to place this kind of lighting and knowing its function.

Overnight camping trips demand a high-quality camping lantern to brighten the area you’ll be staying in. You want a lantern that provides enough illumination that you won’t be tripping over things when moving around. You want a lantern that’s powerful enough so you can cook and read in the dark and can also withstand possible damage from drops or accidental hits.

With so many lantern manufacturers to choose from, you may feel overwhelmed and unsure of what lantern is best. How can you know what lantern you need?

14 Factors to Consider in a Camping Lantern

  • Alkaline or Rechargeable Batteries? Do you want batteries you need to change out continually, or do you want rechargeable batteries instead?
  • Camping Trip – Will you be backpacking, car camping or family camping?
  • Casing – How strong of a case are you looking for?
  • Dimmer or Set Lighting – Do you need a light that provides ambient lighting? Do you want a lantern that can be used for many reasons?
  • Insect Repellant – Will the lantern attract bugs or repel them?
  • Lighting Area – Do you need a small amount of space to be lightened up, or do you want a 360-degree light area?
  • Manual Crank – Do you want a lantern you have to crank to generate the power?
  • Lumens – How much brightness do you need?
  • MAH Battery Capacity – How long do you want the battery to last you?
  • Portable or Static – Do you desire a lantern that can be ported from one place to another or remain in place?
  • Power Bank – Will your power bank be sufficient enough to handle charging other electronics such as mobile phones, tablets, etc.?
  • Purpose – What purpose will the lantern be used for – inside or outside the tent, or both?
  • Solar-Powered – Will you be able to charge the internal batteries?
  • Weight Size – Will you be doing a lot of walking or will you arrive at a campsite and stay there mainly?

Best Choice for Different Types of Camping Lanterns

What Types of Lanterns can be Used for Camping?

  • Battery Operated Camping Lanterns
  • Candle Camping Lanterns
  • Fuel-burning Camping Lanterns
  • Rechargeable Camping Lanterns
  • Solar-powered Camping Lanterns

What are the most common kinds of lanterns that you can choose from? They are battery-powered, rechargeable, manual crank, solar-powered, and fuel-dependent lanterns. Some of the more popular models currently on the market include:

Battery-Powered Lanterns (Lepro)

Lepro offers a battery-operated lantern that is lightweight and portable, whether you’re just camping or going hiking. It comes with a metal handle on top and a hook for the bottom so that it can be hung however you need it. With an IPX4 water-resistance rating, it can be used any time it rains or snow. It uses 3 D alkaline batteries and can last up to 12 hours with 1,000-lumen settings.

This Lepro product gives users four lighting modes – flashing, full brightness, warm white and white – to meet any lighting requirement you could have. It can be used in emergencies or when you’re just camping or hiking.

Candle Lanterns (GSI)

Candle lanterns are known to produce a plethora of heat since they use candles, which is why you must be particularly careful when using them. They are also known to produce a soft, romantic, relaxing light. However, they are considered an outdated source of light power.

GSI Outdoors Blue Candle stands at 8 inches tall and uses a candle that you light to give you illumination. GSI has a two-inch hanging loop so that you can place it up on a pole or branch. GSI designed its candle lantern with enamelware to combine practicality and aesthetics into one product. Due to its robust design, it can easily withstand drops and falls.

Gas Camping Lanterns (Balight)

The Balight Mini Gas Lantern is comprised of corrosion-resistant stainless steel material with an aluminum alloy and heat-resistant glass that ensures its durability and won’t shatter. Balight designed it with a unique high-energy piezoelectric ignition system, ensuring it will light every time you need it to. There is also a hanging chain on the lamp so that you can make it as long or short as you need.

The lantern can reach a 60lux brightness, which is plenty of light when needed.

Rechargeable Lanterns (LE)

LE came up with another LED camping lantern, but this time it’s a rechargeable lantern that can also be used as a detachable flashlight. It’s ideal for any situation, such as hiking, fishing, emergencies, hurricanes, etc. It also comes with a car charger and USB cable.

The LED Rechargeable Camping Lantern is built with a 1,800mAh lithium battery that is chargeable through a USB port. However, if you have no access to charging abilities, it needs 3 D batteries to work.

Most people want a lantern that works and has several functions. LE answered the call. This rechargeable lantern includes a built-in compass, detachable flashlights, metal handles, etc. Each flashlight has 200 lumens of light, with a lumen output of 20. The only difference between this product and others is that too much water can keep the product from working correctly or have it quit working altogether.

Solar-Powered Lantern (Tansoren)

Tansoren designed a versatile rechargeable camping lantern that offers three kinds of power supply methods:

  • Solar power
  • USB cable
  • Batteries (2 AA)

Thanks to the several ways you can charge the device, it’s often regarded as one of the best camping lanterns on the market. If you’re in a remote location where sunlight is an issue, you can use the small built-in power bank to help charge the lantern, phone or other devices. This is certainly ideal for when you don’t have any electrical outlets nearby.

Tansoren designed the solar lantern to be collapsible, ensuring it can fit easily into backpacks. Pull the handle up, and the light comes on. Adjust the level of brightness with a simple push. It really is that simple to use. If used on low power, the lantern can last eight hours.

Another significant aspect of this lantern? It’s made of military-grade material and is water-resistant.

LED technology is made up of an array of parts, and LED drivers are one aspect that can be quite confusing. After all, there are all kinds and varieties of drivers. How do you know which one you should choose for your particular situation?  What makes one LED driver different from another LED driver?

A Closer Look at LED Drivers

The LED driver is responsible for power regulation to one or more LEDs. The electrical device is a critically important part of the LED circuit, and without out, the entire unit fails.  It’s a necessity because it decreases the possibility of temperature changes affecting the LED’s forward voltage.

What is a forward voltage? This is the voltage amount the light will emit and needs to produce electricity and work. With an increase in temperature, the LED forward voltage drops, and more current is needed by the LED. This process continues until the LED no longer works.

However, the LED driver, which is a self-contained power supply, can match the LED electrical characteristics.  The LED driver maintains the forward voltage’s changes, ensuring that thermal runaway does not occur and the LED has a consistent current.

How Can You Find the Right LED Driver?

There are two kinds of drivers – low-voltage DC input power and high-voltage AC input power. What is the difference between them?

  • High voltage AC power LED drivers are known as Off-Line drivers or AC LED drivers. This type of driver is better with a larger lighting project such as commercial or residential lighting.
  • Low-voltage DC input LED drivers are recommended for the majority of applications due to their efficiency and reliability. They are ideal for smaller projects.

You can also make a switch from a high-voltage AC power LED driver to a low-voltage DC input LED driver by using an extra switching power supply.

Consider what kind of driver current you want to be installed in the LED. You’ll use more wattage but get more light from higher drive currents.  Figure out what the LED specifications are to find out what the recommended drive currents and heat sink requirements are. You don’t want the LED to generate too much heat or current.

Be mindful of what you want from the lighting application. If you want a dimmer, make sure the driver you choose has that capability.

What You Need to Know about LED Dimming Drivers

The kind of power you use will dictate the capabilities of the dimming LEDs.

Low Voltage DC Power Drivers

With DC-powered drivers, there are two ways to dim them. The simplest method is through the use of a potentiometer, which provides a 0 to 100% dimming range. With one driver in the circuit, it’s recommended to use a 20k Ohm Potentiometer. However, more than one Potentiometer is necessary for multiple drivers. You can find the potentiometer’s value is found in the KΩ/N – K is the value with the N being the driver number.

Another option is to use a 0-10V wall dimmer such as the A019 Low Voltage Dimming Control. When you have several units, this option is a better way to dim. All you need to do is install the dining rights to the driver’s right side for it to work.

High Voltage AC Power Drivers

There are several high-voltage AC power driver options for dimming, but it depends on the driver. Many of them work with 0-10V dimming. The Mean Well and Philips LED drivers provide TRIAC dimming, which works with all kinds of powerful dimmers. This help because it lets LEDs work with all kinds of well-known residential dimming systems.

The goal most people have when converting from an older lamp to a newer LED lighting fixture is to save money on electricity. Although newer lamps will help with efficiency, the amount of money saved is not so easy to determine. Finding this information involves an easy-to-use math equation that any homeowner or business owner can use to determine how much savings they will see.

Gather Data

You’ll need to collect some general information. For example, you have warehouse lighting you want to retrofit. The metal halide lamp produces 1,000 watts. With the Lepro UFO high bay lights, the wattage is 240.

  • Determine how many hours per day the lamp is to be used. In this instance, the number of hours is 12.
  • From there, determine how many days a year the lamp is used. Ignore the major holidays, and the amount of days is 360.
  • Consider the electricity rate. This rate will vary based on the region and state, but the cost is $0.12/kWh on average.

Determine Per LED Lamp Savings

The key to finding savings is to look at each lamp. The equation to determine this will be:

The wattage of the old lamp minus the wattage of the new lamp determines energy saved for each lamp

  • In the above example, 1000 watts subtracted from 240 watts comes out to 760 watts saved for each lamp.

Determine Yearly Run Time

You only have one part of the answer in determining savings. You need to consider run time for the actual answer. This equation is the following:

Daily run time multiplied by yearly usage to find the total yearly run time

  • In the above example, 12 hours of runtime multiplied by 360 days comes to 4,320 hours.

Determine Total Energy Savings

The above two steps give you the ability to determine total energy savings. At this point, you’ll be factoring in electricity costs that give the lamp the power for the noted amount of hours. In the above example, the 1,000 watts will be converted into kilowatts, with the equation looking like the following:

Energy saved with each lamp multiplied by yearly run time divided by 1,000 to get Total Savings of Energy

  • 760 watts of every lamp multiplied by 4,320 divided by 1,000, coming out to 3283.2kWh saved.

Determine the Dollars Saved

It’s great to know how much energy you’ll be saving, but nothing hits the psyche more than knowing how much money you are saving. How do you do this?

Multiply the electricity rate by the total energy saved to find the saved monetary amount.

  • 3283.2kWh multiplied by $0.12/kWh for savings of $393.98 for each lamp.

As you see, it’s pretty basic math to determine if you see any actual savings when converting to a more energy-efficient wattage. Use the formulas to find the answers to your questions about the products you currently have and looking to purchase.

  • Obstacle lighting.

Emergency lighting can include safety lighting, evacuation lighting, and backup lighting, and the following rules should be followed:

  • Equipment lighting should be included where activities can continue if there is a fault with the normal lighting causing it to go out.
  • If there is a fault with the standard lighting, safety lighting should be added to places to ensure people stay safe in dangerous places.
  • If there is a fault with the standard lighting, evacuation lighting should be made available over passages and exits to make sure everybody can leave safely.
  • On-duty lighting should be added to normal lighting but work independently or in conjunction with emergency lighting.
  • Install guard lighting near the guard range
  • Obstacle lighting installation should strictly adhere to regulations set forth by the transportation or aviation industries.

Environmental Factors for Proper Factory Lighting

When choosing the kind of lights to use based on the environment they’ll be used in, you must factor in the following situation:

  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Dust
  • Corrosion
  • Contamination
  • Vibration
  • Fire and explosion hazards

There are three environmental conditions to help you choose your lights:

  • Normal environments can use recessed lights.
  • Dusty locations with no fire risks can use lights that can be used with the amount of dust produced. The air concentration or sedimentation amount calculates how much dust is in the air. In basic dusty environments, lights that are dust-proof (IPSX grade) should be installed. In general dusty areas that have conductive dust and dust-tight lights (IP6X) should be installed.
  • In conductive fiber settings, it’s best to install IP65-rated lights, especially if they need to be washed regularly.

One such light to consider is the Lepro LED High Bay Light. It has an IP65 rating and is both waterproof and dust-proof. They come with a corrosion-resistant finish and can pass more than 150 hours of the spray/salt test. The Lepro LED High Bay lights can be used in high salt areas such as the beach or seashore. The die-cast housing and strong PC lens have an IK10 impact-resistant rating.

What is a Clean Room?

This is an area of a factory where the environmental conditions must remain tightly controlled. The key aspect of the lighting is to ensure work activities can be easily seen – safe and efficient for the employees.

Any lighting system installed should not affect the flow of air or the production process and be easily maintainable.

There are specific industries where clean rooms are standard: aviation, computer, electronics, and semiconductor. The food and beverage and pharmaceutical industries also have biological clean rooms.

Industrial Lighting Arrangement

Serious problems can occur when mistakes happen in a clean room, which is why they have stringent higher levels of lighting.

  • If no special requirements are necessary, it’s advisable to use high color rendering neutral white light. These requirements are also applicable to local lighting to avoid glare.
  • The lighting system of a certain dust level will depend on the requirement for air handling. Fluorescent lights with high color rendering aspects are ideal for these areas.
  • In a light source with a wide color temperature range, you can choose the right color temperature.

Clean Room Lighting: Use Thin Wire Cables

  • Cleanrooms with strict guidelines must ensure a controlled airflow to ensure the desired environment is maintained. Airflow changes must be avoided.
  • Do not use surface or hidden lights.
  • Use thin lights, those with a width smaller than the distance between the building’s suspended ceiling brackets.
  • Standard fluorescent bulbs can be used for a glare source but are controllable with reflectors inside the light.

With this kind of lighting, the Jurassic Teardrop light fixture with thin wire cable racks and 36W lighting can be used.

This can lead to an increased light efficiency of nearly 15%.

Clean Room Lighting: Use Recessed Lights

  • Use recessed light fixtures for clean rooms with a medium level of dust.
  • No matter what kind of lighting you are installing (open or closed), be sure that air can pass through the filter.
  • Ensure you have a straightforward design that won’t affect the operating system.
  • Make sure to choose lights that don’t cause glare and provide ample light.

Remember, when you need lights for your factory, you need to base the decision on the following:

  • Environmental condition
  • Production and work condition
  • Ease of installation and coordination
  • Aesthetic appearance
  • The economical and technical sense

There are some stringent requirements for underground parking garage lighting, but they are often dismissed. It’s not just the harsh climate to consider but the extreme temperatures, humidity, and exhaust fumes.

Choosing the right lighting technology that fits in with the underground parking garage architecture, such as pillars, ramps, niches, curves and low ceiling heights, is also imperative. You want the most advanced lighting system that allows for easy movement in these areas.

LED luminaire underground lighting systems have been specifically designed for underground parking garages such as glare control, adaptable, innovative technology, beam characteristics and luminous flux package… all leading to a perfectly lit area without shadows or glares.

4 Reasons You Should Consider LED Lighting for Underground Garage

If you’re wondering why you should consider LED luminaire underground lighting systems, be aware that you get a lot from them. What are some reasons to choose them for your underground parking garage?

  • Long-Lasting – LEDs generate a white light that doesn’t wear out over time, with a life expectancy between eight and 20 years. This reduces the cost of having to replace them every few years as well, which saves you money in the long run.
  • Decreased Energy Costs – LED lights provide more than just great lighting; they help you to save money by using less energy. In a typical HID system, a 150w bulb comes to 185 watts, whereas a similar LED system consumes just 70 watts. HID lighting has a 15,000-hour lifespan, while LED lights have 60,000 life hours.
  • Decreased Maintenance Costs – LED parking garage lights last longer, reducing the need to change bulbs out or hire someone to maintain the system. However, you do want to make sure they are safeguarded from the elements.
  • Better Security – LED lights help to improve visibility in garages and parking lots, which means people can see all the cars parked in their vicinity and don’t have to worry about shadows where criminals can hide in cover.

One popular underground parking lighting system is the LED T8 Tube Light, which is more durable and brighter than fluorescent lights. They have a lifespan of 50,000 hours and are rarely replaced when taken well care of. They are designed for factories, warehouses, workshops, etc.

What are the Aspects of Lepro LED Tube Light?

There are specific needs for underground parking garages, with the most critical being lighting. This lighting is not the same as the requirements for street or parking lights, as safety is more of a concern. More lights are often installed in this setting, but they must be the right kind of light for the environment.

For example, the Lepro tube light offers many features that meet the necessary requirements, such as IP65 Waterproof, IK09 Protection and ENEC-certified flicker-free driver. It also comes with a five-year warranty and a 50,000-hour lifespan.

Remember to Choose LED Exit Signs for Safety

Besides getting underground LED garage parking lights, you also want to consider getting LED exit signs that make it easy for people to spot the exit. These lights can be installed in several ways, such as on the ceiling. LED exit signs usually come with a battery, mounting equipment, and accessories.

With the Lepro exit sign, it can be recharged up to 500 times and work for at least 45,000 minutes. If there is a power loss or outage, a fully-charged system will provide up to 90 minutes of emergency light. It’s designed for industrial, commercial, and residential industries. If used in a commercial setting, it’s ideal for office buildings and shopping malls.

LED technology is like any other technology… susceptible to electrical surges. It’s why you need to invest in surge protection to keep them from having to make costly repairs or replace them altogether. The cost to replace LED lights compared to traditional luminaires, and since these lights are far more susceptible than other lighting fixtures, it’s imperative to protect them.

How can you do that?

What are Surge-Over Voltages?

Surge-over-voltages are spikes that last several microseconds but can hit tens of kilovolts. Although there are short-lived, the amount of voltage they carry could lead to significant electronic damage, including premature aging or damage. This will cause service disruptions and involve hundreds to thousands of dollars in repairs.

There are several reasons why voltage surges occur.

Lightning Strikes – Any lightning strikes near a building’s distribution line can generate electromagnetic fields that will produce voltage spikes to adjacent lighting installations. Outdoor distribution power lines are especially vulnerable to lightning strikes.

Other reasons for voltages surges are:

  • Swapping out contactors inside electrical cabinets
  • Disconnecting transformers, motors, generators or anything with high loads of power

There are two circulation modes with surge-over voltages – common and differential. What are the differences between the two? Common modes show up between the ground and live conductors. Differential modes travel among live conductors, such as line-to-line.

When a luminaire is installed, it should be protected from both types of surge voltages.

Surges can Cause Damage to LED Lights

It’s not just direct lightning strikes that can cause significant damage to LED lights, but also indirect lighting. This kind of lighting can create over-voltages that surpass the sensitivity wattage of an LED light. When there is an overvoltage, it can lead to some or total loss of the LED modules and drivers. It can also cause electronic devices to die or reduce the brightness level.

Should the LED light still work, its lifespan is much less than before.

Surge Protection for LED Lighting

LED lighting systems, similar to other electronics, can be destroyed by voltage surges. They cause the LED drivers and distribution panels to wear out quicker than they typically would. They can also experience more frequent service interruptions. Lightning-induced voltage surges can break the lighting distribution panels’ circuit boards’ protective parts.

There is a vast array of documented cases of over-voltages damaging electronic lighting systems, and varying international standards and regulations dictate the necessary protection.

Surge Protection for LED Street Lighting Systems

More and more communities are opting for long-lasting LED technology for their street lights because of the reduced costs and maintenance needed. The changeover is happening for several reasons – bans of certain kinds of lighting technologies, energy-efficient, funding and more.

Despite the numerous benefits LED technology offers, it’s quite vulnerable to surges and replacing it is costly. When a surge happens to LED street lights, multiple lights are usually affected.

LEPRO has designed its LED parking lot light with a 10KV surge immunity, significantly exceeding the legally required 2KV. They will work even during severe weather, such as thunderstorms with persistent lightning.

Surge Protection for Indoor LED Lighting

The idea behind surge protectors is to ensure devices don’t become damaged in the event of a surge. Businesses can also benefit from surge-protecting lighting in their buildings beyond protecting their devices. It can help keep employees safe from accidents that could occur without adequate lighting.

Lepro LED High Bay Lights offer superior surge immunity, with six times more capability to withstand surges than recommended.
