The many rooms in your home each have their distinct atmosphere. A living room might be a great location to unwind, while the kitchen calls for an air of freshness. Wouldn’t it be great if you could adjust the lighting in each area to suit the ambiance you want to create? To top it all off, you can simply adjust the “color temperature” of every LED light in your home, which is one of our favorite features. In this article, we’ll examine the ideal color temperatures for a variety of rooms and spaces within your home.

LEDs in the Family Room

The living room is one of the most versatile rooms in the house since it may be used for a variety of purposes. Do you like it to be hot, cold, or just right? We suggest a range of LED color temperatures to accommodate the variety of uses you intend for the living area.

In addition, we suggest using many light sources to get the optimal LED color temperature, giving you the most flexibility in terms of the temperatures you can access and when. When you and your friends want to play a board game, bright overhead lights are ideal, but when you and your family want to watch a movie, softer lighting from lamps is preferable. In general, we advise using LED lighting with a brightness of 1,500–3,000 lumens and a color temperature of 2,200–3,000 K for the living room. They may seem enormous, but so are the possibilities for what you may do with your living room.

LED Colors for a Study or Home Office

While the thought of working from home may be appealing, many people find that they are better able to get their job done when they are subjected to the bright lights of an office. With the right LED color temperature in your home office or study, you may achieve the same level of concentration. Lights that mimic sunshine are ideal for increasing serotonin levels in the brain, as humans are hardwired to work at their best during daylight hours. If you like to get some work done at night but still have time to unwind, you may adjust the lighting in the workplace to suit your needs. Lamps and pendant lights hung above workspaces may be moved around to provide the optimal amount of light for any given activity or time of day. The recommended level of brightness for a home office or study is between 3,000 and 6,000 lumens, and it is best to use LED lights with a color temperature ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 Kelvin.

These LED light settings can help you concentrate when you need to and relax when you don’t.

LED Color Options for Kitchens and Dining Rooms

In smaller homes, it is common for kitchens and dining rooms to be connected, but this does not imply that they have to have the same LED color temperatures.

They evoke completely different emotions!

A kitchen is where meals are prepared, while the dining room is where they are enjoyed. Kitchens are often the most scientifically equipped rooms in a house, so they are a good place to experiment with using cooler tones of LED lighting. The colder LED color temperature may flood open-concept houses with an uncomfortable glare if you go all out with the cooler design, so it’s ideal if your kitchen is not immediately exposed to everything else.

The ideal LED color temperature for a kitchen is between 2,700 and 5,000 Kelvin, and the suggested brightness is from 4,000 to 8,000 lumens. On the contrary, if the temperature in your dining room is higher, it will create a more cozy atmosphere for any dinner gathering. To have the ability to adjust the lighting to your preference, we recommend installing a chandelier with dimmable LED lights above the table

with a color temperature of 2,200–3,000K and a lumen output of 3,000–6,000.

Color Temp. of Bathroom LED Lighting

A bathroom is a place of business for most individuals, even though we all hate being jolted awake by the bright light. Even if softer light might make us seem better in the mirror, it would be a self-serving gesture. Having flawless makeup and no stray hairs left behind after shaving is a top priority. For this reason, we’ll need LED lights with a brightness of 4-8,000 lumens and a color temperature of 3,000-5,000 kelvin.

LED Color Temperatures for Bedrooms

Sleeping and, well, you get the point, are the only two acceptable uses of the bedroom, at least in Dr. Oz’s opinion. That is to say, you should try to unwind as much as possible in there. Some may argue that the main use of bedroom lighting is to locate the bed. Keep the LED brightness in the bedroom between 2,000 and 4,000 lumens. LEDs in the bedroom should have a color temperature of about 2,700 K.

Lighting, Inc.’s LED experts can help you get started with the process of selecting the ideal LED color temperatures for your house.

It takes more than simply picking out your preferred light fixtures to figure out how to illuminate a kitchen. A successful kitchen lighting system requires you to understand how to modify your wonderful ideas, whether they came from Pinterest or your favorite magazine.

While it’s important to include your own preferences in the design of your kitchen’s lighting, it’s also important to keep in mind the functional and aesthetic implications of different lighting options.

Experts in lighting and kitchen design share their best advice for striking the right balance between the two, so that you may create a space that serves its purpose while also looking attractive.

Light Layering Techniques for the Kitchen

What does this foresight entail in terms of developing a multilayered lighting scheme for a kitchen? Multiple layers of lighting, each with its own distinct function, make up a layered lighting design. There are three main groups that can be made out of this:

  • Task lighting
  • Ambient lighting
  • Accent lighting.

The most functional sort of lighting is task lighting, which is designed to illuminate a specific area so that it may be used effectively.

Spotlights and downlights can be used for task lighting in the kitchen, and depending on how they are installed, they may also serve as ambient lighting for the entire room. Other types of directional lighting, such as under-cabinet lighting and integrated lighting, are also commonplace in modern kitchens.

General illumination is the primary goal of ambient lighting. While this may increase the overall brightness of the room, its primary purpose is to create a soft, diffused glow. The usage of pendant lights over a kitchen island or dining table is a great example of ambient lighting. Ambient lighting might also include wall sconces or flush ceiling lights

The usage of accent lighting allows you to highlight specific elements of your kitchen’s design. Accent lighting may be used effectively in a kitchen through the use of light strips on shelves or as kitchen cabinet lighting ideas, as well as lighting used within open or glass-fronted cabinets.

Is There a Preferred Color for Kitchen Lights?

Kitchen lighting options include both cold and warm light, which may be selected when purchasing bulbs or requesting integrated LED lighting. It will have a significant effect on the atmosphere of your room and is measured in kelvins.

Rebecca Hutchison from John Cullen Lighting suggests 2,700 kelvins as the most adaptable hue for the kitchen, as it produces a slightly warm light that is creamy enough to be on throughout the day but is still a comforting warm light for nights.

Shelving unit lighting is typically left on at night for ambiance, so you’d want to use strips with a higher color temperature, about 2,400 kelvins.

For example, a cooler light may be used for task lighting because it is brighter, making it easier to see, while a warmer light could be used for ambient lighting because it is more comforting.

However, using both at once might be disorienting, so think about how you’ll be utilizing the lights together. It’s possible you’ll utilize both your ambient and accent lighting at once, while only turning on your task lighting when you need anything done in the kitchen.

How Strong of a Glow Do You Want in Your Kitchen?

The best kitchen lighting schemes allow for varying levels of brightness, from high to dim. The appropriate amount of light, in just the right places, may be achieved with a well-thought-out tiered lighting design.

Morten from Zuma makes the excellent point that modern kitchens must serve several purposes, such as a place to prepare meals, host gatherings, hold homework sessions, and serve as a place to relax. “Your lighting should be flexible, rather than just on, off, or dimmed,” says the designer.

‘Customers are increasingly opting for LED lights.,’ Graeme from Life Kitchens says. “Not only do they look nice, but they also give off a lot of light, making them perfect for high-traffic workspaces. They last significantly longer than regular light bulbs while also being much easier on the environment. LED lights may be used for a variety of purposes and are very understated. It makes your kitchen more streamlined and brings your countertops and cabinets to life.”

How Would You Describe the Modern Style of Kitchen Lighting?

Kitchen lighting, like the rest of the house, is affected by current styles. Several significant kitchen lighting trends are emerging at present. These use more daring color palettes, organic forms, and materials.

Natalie from Iconic Lights says, “Every room of the house, including the kitchen, has witnessed an increase in natural textures..” Using natural materials and appreciating their imperfect textures and shapes is at the heart of this movement.

Victoria from Rothschild & Bickers agrees, saying, “Soft, sculptural, organic shapes are very popular right now.” This is in addition to the exquisite and welcoming appearance brought about by the diamond glass and optic glass finishes. The use of our sophisticated hand-blown glass pendants over kitchen islands and dining tables has also increased in popularity. Also, there is a marked increase in the use of color, especially vibrant jewel tones.

If you’ve seriously thought about making upgrades to your exterior lighting, you’ve probably reached out to an electrician about the matter. They may have mentioned the terms “uplighting” and “downlighting” without feeling explaining them. You may think the differences are relatively self-explanatory – one light points upward, with another pointing downward.

These terms mean more than just upward or downward, and these other “issues” are worth looking into before you decide which one to go with.

What does Uplighting Mean?

The term uplighting means lights installed at ground level and pointed upward to lighten your house. With this lighting, you can highlight certain areas of your home and surrounding property, such as landscape, trees and architecture. If you have a large home and want a light that illuminates the high parts, then you’ll want to uplight.

This kind of lighting is also suitable for creating surface depth and shadows and also giving layers to the lighting. It can also produce boundaries around your property. These lights are often called spotlights or bullet lights.

2 Key Uplight Fixtures for Your Home

  • Wall Scores – These are usually used for uplighting purposes, mounted on the wall and pointed upward. This style of lighting goes back to Classical antiquity when it was used to hold candles and torches. They are used as night lights for bathrooms and hallways and can produce a mood lighting effect.
  • Deck Lights – These lights have the propensity to generate an amazing light effect with their subtle style. Subtly is the key here, and don’t have an emphasis on the limelight. Installation of these lights can be found outdoors, such as in flowerbeds, laws, terraces, driveways, etc. However, each light needs to be installed correctly, regardless of the surface being installed on. Consider how the light will be used to determine if you want to walk or drive over your lights.

What does Downlighting Mean?

This term is applied to any light installed at a high point around or on the home to shine onto the property. It’s also a way to accentuate textures and layers on the home’s outside. The difference between them is that uplighting offers security to a home, whereas downlighting focuses on creating an inviting feeling.

Downlighting is usually installed to accentuate above-ground features, such as fountains or landscapes, when the day turns to night. It can also be used for parties and finding paths toward the home and back for your family and visitors.

4 Key Downlight Fixtures

  • Barn Lights – These fixtures offer lighting to barns, farmhouses and workshops. The gooseneck light is noted by its downward-pointed shade and wall-mounted arm.
  • UFO High Bay Lights – UFO High bay lights are typically defined as those round lights which are installed on the ceiling over 18ft. Besides, high bay lights are often used with reflectors.
  • Decorative Pendant Style Light Fixture – The light is hung from the ceiling by a chain.
  • Recessed Lighting – These lights are installed in ceilings to generate light, particularly in the living room, bedroom, dining room, basement, etc. However, they are also installed in commercial buildings such as offices, meeting rooms, etc.
  • Table Lamp – This kind of light is often seen as a desk or night table accessory, so you can easily read or spend time in the light without an overhead light.

Should You Get Uplighting or Downlighting Fixtures?

The easiest way to determine if uplighting or downlighting fixtures are best is to determine what you want from the light. If you want to add security and accentuate your home’s features, then you want an uplight fixture. However, if you want to accentuate the features around the home, so it looks inviting and taller, then you want to purchase downlight fixtures.

Corridor lighting can be a real challenge – a narrow walkway and no natural light. The wrong light installed in a hallway doesn’t do much to help it either. However, the right one ensures a brighter, more inviting and bigger area while also adding to its safety. For the right light in your hallway, it’s best to consider various eco-friendly, money-saving LED light sources.

A Look At What Elements A Corridor Light Should Have

First, before you purchase any corridor light, you need to know what elements they should consist of:

  • Properly lightens up the hallway – long corridors are best with evenly installed, small recessed lights to ensure the whole area is lit up, while square hallways should have one ceiling light based on your personal style.
  • Install more lighting close to coat hooks.
  • Use accented lighting to brighten hallways enough to maneuver through the home or let you know when a person enters the home. For example, you can install LED strips along the baseboards or go with an individual downlight.
  • Use motion-detected lights to save yourself on energy costs. The light only comes on when a person enters the hallway and will turn off after a few minutes.
  • For hallways without sockets, battery-powered lights are an acceptable option. You can also use these types of lights to accentuate a cabinet.

What Kind of Lighting Fixture Should You Choose For Your Hallway?

The shape of your hallway will give you a good idea of what kind of lighting you should have:

  • Long and narrow – Flush ceiling lights, LED strips and Track lights
  • Square – Flush ceiling lights, LED strips and Table lamps on side tables
  • High ceilings – LED strips, Pendant lamps, Table lamps on side tables and Track lights
  • No daylight – Flush ceiling lights, LED lights, Pendant lamps, Table lamps on side tables and Track lights

An office environment plays a pivotal role in an individual’s work performance, productiveness, and employment quality in a myriad of ways. A decisive parameter that tops the list in an office setting is illumination. Be it regarding the concentration or satisfaction levels; studies have proven and confirmed that an individual’s health, well-being, and productivity at work can be altered, literally, at the flick of a switch.

Poor and inadequate lighting directly affects workers’ health leading to ophthalmic strain, headache, and fatigue. However, it can pretty much also subtly and ambiguously impact employees. Whether the employees face insomnia or contentment, well-designed, appropriate lighting does far more than meets the eye. In addition to confronting simple health and safety issues, they also positively influence office worker satisfaction and subsequent productivity. Consequently, ascertaining and employing suitable lighting fixtures are imperative for boosting worker productivity.

Types of Fixtures for Office Lighting

Recessed Lighting

If you desire to provide a substantial amount of uniform and even overhead lighting throughout your workspace without resorting to large fixtures that make a significant design statement, consider the LED recessed illuminants. As the name suggests, these fixtures encompass recessed bulbs deep-set into the ceiling. Hence, they are highly preferred since they neither suspend from the ceiling nor take up much room.

The three main applications of LED recessed lights for office lighting include:

  1. Provision of luminance throughout the entire room.
  2. Spotlighting or highlighting architectural details, pieces, or features, for instance, a painting or sculpture.
  3. Wall wash lighting creates a dramatic effect.

Flat Panel Light Fixtures

‘Functional lighting’ is crucial for executing tasks in workspaces, unlike ‘mood lighting,’ which is mainly meant for creating an atmosphere or vibe within a living space. For that reason, we recommend LED panels with a high color temperature that produces a cold white light, thereby improving visibility. In contrast, there is no need for similar visibility for a desk job. Hence, you can opt for a warmer tone of white light to generate a more pleasant and comfortable atmosphere in the office space. For example, the Lepro 5000K LED panel light is a great choice for ambient lighting purposes within your workspace. 2X2 and 2X4 flat panel lights are available for choice.

Flush Mount Office Ceiling Lights

Flush mount ceiling lights are the primary sources of general and task lighting furnished in workspaces with a ceiling height of 9 feet or less. Illumination is a critical element of the workspace design that may either make or break an employee’s work experience and, in this manner, enhance or jeopardize job performance and overall productivity. Office lighting should advocate visual performance and satisfy human needs apart from offering paramount visibility. Thoughtful lighting must address the public demand for a pleasant environment, where they can solely focus on work, keeping performance at optimum levels, creating an inviting atmosphere that boosts collaboration and communication, and a nourishing ambiance that contributes to an employee’s health and well-being. Office ceiling lights are the clutch performer that assists in fulfilling arduous obligations.

Desk Lamps for Office

Traditional desk lamps are ideal for those searching for lanterns for their home offices or individual workspaces. They are specially designed to render targeted light and come in a wide assortment of styles that make it easy to complement and customize your decorating plans and preferences, lighting and color schemes, and the aesthetic feel and decor of your company. They usually serve best as supplemental illumination sources. As a result, the desk lamps should probably not be your only light emitter.

Office Track Lighting

Track lighting is an overhead lighting solution that is slightly more stylish than the conventional recessed or fluorescent lamps. This fixture encompasses a track or a bar that mounts several bulbs deployed over it. This solution is ideal for offices that want to make a minimalist, contemporary, or industrial style and statement. Gross Electric has been providing track lighting solutions to offices.

]]>
  1. What is UL?

UL is short for Underwriter Laboratories Inc. UL safety laboratories hold the highest authoritative power in the United States. UL is also among the largest private institutions conducting safety testing and accreditation in the world.

  2. What is ETL?

ETL is short for Electrical Testing Laboratories. ETL was founded by the American inventor Thomas Edison in 1896 and enjoys high repute both within the United States and around the world.

What is UL Certification?

The UL mark is usually labeled on the product and/or product packaging to indicate that the product has passed UL certification and meets safety standard requirements. There are three common UL safety marks for different types of UL services:

1.UL Listed

This is mainly used for general end-use products that consumers can buy directly from markets, such as home appliances, computers, heaters, fuses, power supply boards, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers. If the final product needs to be marked with UL Listed, UL should test the product sample to confirm that there are no hidden fire and electrical hazards. Any product marked with UL Listed indicates that a representative sample of the product meets the relevant UL safety standards. This safety mark series includes three different marks for the United States, Canada, and the United States and Canada.

ul listed

2.UL Recognized

UL Recognized is primarily a safety certification for components and materials. The accredited components will be used in assembling the finished product. The components must meet the relevant approval conditions before they can be used in the corresponding finished products. Examples include: switches, power supplies, printed plates, transformers, wires, plugs, and plastic materials, all of which are subject to approval.

UL Recognized

3.UL Classified

A product that has specific hazard risks, specific attributes, or limited or special conditions of use, even if it is a legally regulated product, needs to be labeled with the UL Classified mark. The classification is primarily for building materials and various kinds of fire protection equipment and marine equipment. The classification mark involves one or more of the following requirements: specific risks, such as casualty, death, or fire; performance under specific conditions; specific regulations and requirements; and specific standards. Common products include fire doors, fire hydrants, medical equipment, and ice machines.

UL Classified

What is ETL Listed?

Like UL, ETL can test and issue ETL certification marks in accordance with UL standards or American national standards. It can also issue composite certification marks in accordance with UL standards or American national standards and CSA standards or Canadian standards. Any electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical product that carries the ETL mark indicates that the product has met the minimum requirements of the United States and Canada’s general product safety standards and has been tested to confirm that it meets the relevant product safety standards.

ETL Listed

UL and ETL’s services are based not only on American standards but also Canadian standards. The letters “US” on the bottom-right of the mark indicates that it is applicable within the United States; the letter “C” at the bottom-left indicates that it is applicable within Canada, and a mark that contains both “US” and “C” on both sides indicates that it is applicable within both countries.

UL VS ETL

The main difference between products listed by UL and ETL is that ETL does not create its own certification standards. UL develops standards used by other organizations, including ETL.

UL VS ETL

Both are Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTL). They act as independently-run, non-governmental laboratories. In addition, they are recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as laboratories suited for testing products according to safety standards.

What are the risks of using products without UL/ETL certification?

UL and ETL standards protect users from potential fire, electric shock, and personal injury hazards. UL/ETL has developed standard codes for various safety levels based on their tests for various products, external power supplies, and charging accessories. Many manufacturers produce products or purchase parts that have not passed UL/ETL certification to save on costs. This actually harms the safety of consumers.

When you purchase high-risk products, such as 110V products, you should take care to check if it has passed UL/ETL certification. If not, you are recommended to stop using the product to avoid accidents such as fire or electric shock.

Lepro produces a wide variety of products including LED high bay lights, LED shop lights, LED parking lot lights, LED tube lights, and LED recessed lights, which are suitable for various commercial and industrial lighting uses. All of them have passed UL or ETL certification, so you can buy and use them with a peace of mind.

When Should I Choose LED Can Lights?

LED recessed lights, also called LED can lights, LED downlights, are a type of LED lighting fixture embedded into the ceiling whose rays shoot downward. Installed in the ceilings of rooms without taking up much ceiling space, they make the room look and feel bigger compared to when using other lights for illumination. At the same time, since LED recessed downlights’ rays are cast directly downward, they can also be used as spotlights, extremely suitable for exhibiting artwork or for smaller reading areas. LED recessed lights are more concentrated relative to ordinary light bulbs, but compared to highly concentrated flash lamps, their rays are much gentler, which can create a cozier feeling. They are often used to illuminate such places as living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, basements, meeting rooms, corridors, shops, and hotels.

led recessed lights for room

How to Choose LED Recessed Lighting Fixtures

So then how should we select suitable LED recessed lights? The most important things to pay attention to are size and color.

Size

First of all, if you are altering or replacing LED lights, then you should refer to your current illumination lights for the measurements of the LED recessed downlight that you select to purchase. If you are installing an all-new design, then you should also pay attention to the fact that the light emission effects of downlights of different sizes are also different. The larger-sized LED can lights have relatively higher power, and they will emit light more extensively. The height of the ceiling and the size of the area that needs to be illuminated will both influence the selection of the size. In addition, if you need multiple LED recessed lights to illuminate a room, the size that you select will also influence the quantity of lights required.

Color & Color Temperature

When selecting lights, we often will select warm white, cool white, or daylight white, with color temperatures varying from 2000K to 6500K. Everyone knows that the feeling created by the different colors and color temperatures of the lights will also be completely different. The color temperature value of warm white is probably 2700K-3000K, making people feel a kind of cozy, comfortable ambience, suitable for use in rooms such as bedrooms, living rooms, and kitchens. When the color temperature value is 4000K, 5000K, or higher, cool white or daylight white lights will make the room appear even brighter, suitable for use in such places as shops, offices, or conference rooms.

In actuality, you can select dimmable LED recessed lighting so that you can adjust the brightness of the lights based on the situation at different time intervals, feeling the most comfortable light illumination.

Apart from the size and the color of the lights, LED can lights’ parameters, such as brightness, power, and angle of light emission should all be scrutinized so that the most suitable lighting fixtures may be picked out based upon the actual circumstances.

How to Install LED Recessed Lights

LED Recessed Lights VS LED Ceiling Lights

What is the difference between LED recessed lights and LED ceiling lights, both of which are lighting fixtures installed on ceilings? In terms of the installation position, LED recessed lighting are embedded into the ceiling without taking up extra space, while LED ceiling lights are hung from the ceiling without taking up a certain amount of space. Comparatively speaking, recessed LED lights will make the room appear bigger.

Second of all, the scenes in which they are used differ somewhat. In some rooms with relatively low ceilings, such as basements, hallways, and staircases, using LED can lights will not take up too much space, and it will not pose the extra threat of people bumping their heads. They are better suited for illumination.

In addition, as a kind of spotlight, LED downlights project their rays directly onto the floor. Their illumination is more layered in cramped areas. In particular, when they are used for exhibiting artwork, they can create different ambiences. And LED ceiling lights’ rays have broader range: oftentimes, it thus suffices to use 1-2 of them for illumination in a room.

No matter what sort of light fixture you select, it is most important that it suits the scene that you need and can satisfy your illumination requirements. If you would like to learn more, you can click to check out the LED recessed lights details.
