LED lights are already available in a dizzying array of styles and configurations, but many people are unaware of how to make use of them. Light bulbs, especially those with filaments, are susceptible to failure after prolonged use, and they are capable of reaching dangerous temperatures. However, such instances are extremely unusual.

Some lights must be kept on for a time for special occasions like family gatherings and vacations. If one does not take into account how long lights can survive continuous use, this can result in damage to your bulbs and possibly harm to your property. Can LED lights be left on all night? Is using lights nonstop safe? In this post, we’ll try to provide solutions to these important queries for all you homeowners.

The Threat of a Fire

When lights are kept on for too long, it increases the danger of a fire.

It is crucial to eliminate any fire hazards before leaving for a lengthy period of time. LED light bulbs are designed to dissipate as little heat as possible to reduce the risk of an explosion and subsequent fire.

LE GU10 LED Light Bulbs Non-Dimmable, 2700K Soft Warm Light GU10 Bulb Replacement for Recessed Track Lighting, 4W LED Bulbs with 100°Flood Beam for Kitchen, Range Hood, Living Room, Bedroom, 6 Pack

Mercury filament bulbs, which generate light by heating the filament and releasing gas trapped inside a glass chamber, are capable of this. They create a lot of heat, but also a lot of light, therefore they had to be cooled down periodically. LED lights are distinct in construction and do not generate any heat, thus they do not increase the risk of a house fire.

The low levels of heat are safe for both the house and its inhabitants. They are made for nonstop use, so you may safely leave them on for days on end without worrying about damage.

One potential drawback is that the lifespan of individual bulbs varies greatly depending on how they are utilized. However, the fire is not an issue at all.

Costly Electrical Consumption

The second factor in deciding how long an LED bulb may be left on is its temperature. A homeowner’s power use is often influenced by the size of their monthly electricity bill. Some forms of lighting are favored over others due to their reduced impact on monthly electricity costs.

When compared to traditional light sources like incandescent bulbs, LEDs provide significant savings.

LED lighting, whether in the form of a strip or individual bulbs, offers superior illumination and lower lifetime costs.

If you’re concerned that LED lights won’t last as long or that they’ll break the bank, you may relax. In terms of cost and performance, LED lighting for the home is a no-brainer. LED lights may reduce energy consumption in any application by up to 85%, according to studies.

Possible Sleep Disruptions

Night terrors are terrifying for everyone, but especially for children. The correct lighting at home might help one be prepared to deal with this issue. It would necessitate leaving some lights on all night. We know now that these lights are safe for extended usage and won’t start fires.

However, if you keep the lighting on during the entire night, it might disturb your natural sleep pattern and may cause challenges for you to drift off to sleep.

Attempts to get some shut-eye might be hampered by the presence of strong light. There is, however, a simple solution to avoid being blinded by LED lights late at night.

To improve the quality of your sleep, try swapping out your white bulbs with some red ones with lower power. Red LED light strips, which may be put around the room’s perimeter, provide precisely the right amount of light for walking around without disturbing anyone’s sleep.

Bottom Line

LED lights may be left on continuously, day and night if that is what is necessary. They’re safer than traditional filament bulbs, which can cause fires if left on for too long. They’re much less dangerous than other options. LED lights’ long service life is a major financial benefit for their owners.

Knowing how to properly utilize LED lights and reduce power use is crucial. In order to make sensible choices about your energy use and associated costs, you need to have a firm grasp on both.

FAQs

Can I feel at ease using LED bulbs indoors?

LED lighting is far safer than traditional incandescent lights. They would not overheat to the point of being a fire hazard. You may make your house and daily life safer by making sure the cords are not in the way. To avoid the risk of electrocution, it is important to conceal all of the wires for the strips.

Will leaving LED lights on 24 hours a day reduce their lifespan?

Out of all the lighting products on the market, LED bulbs have the longest lifespan. An LED bulb should last between 35,000 and 50,000 hours on average. Even if you operate them for 24 hours seven days a week, it might still imply many months. It won’t be as much as seldom used LED lights, but they’re still suitable for longer usage.

Can LED lights safely be left on for 24 hours straight?

If absolutely essential, leaving the lights on all day is OK. The intensity of the lighting in your home may be adjusted for usage at various times of the day. Turn off lights when not in use to prevent wasteful power use. Make it a practice to use as little power as possible and avoid wasting it, even if doing so is not too much of a financial burden.

Can LEDs be utilized in the great outdoors?

LED lights may be used outside, but only if you get ones that are weatherproof and waterproof. Weatherproof LED lighting is designed to work outdoors and can survive elements including wind, rain, and snow. Additionally, they are more resistant to water and ultraviolet light which are two common causes of damage.

LED bulbs: are they recyclable or not?

LED bulbs can be recycled, yes. Some manufacturers have recycling schemes in place for LED lights since they contain recyclable elements like aluminum and glass. For more detailed information about recycling LED lights, contact your neighborhood’s recycling facility or the company that made them.

Do LED bulbs potentially give out radiation?

LED lights do not produce any potentially dangerous radiation, such as UV or IR rays. In contrast to incandescent bulbs, which may cause fires and other hazards, LED lights produce only visible light and pose no health risks. However, when buying LED bulbs, ensure to choose ones that are endorsed by the Federal Communications Agency or the IEC itself. Including other regulatory agencies.

The goal most people have when converting from an older lamp to a newer LED lighting fixture is to save money on electricity. Although newer lamps will help with efficiency, the amount of money saved is not so easy to determine. Finding this information involves an easy-to-use math equation that any homeowner or business owner can use to determine how much savings they will see.

Gather Data

You’ll need to collect some general information. For example, you have warehouse lighting you want to retrofit. The metal halide lamp produces 1,000 watts. With the Lepro UFO high bay lights, the wattage is 240.

  • Determine how many hours per day the lamp is to be used. In this instance, the number of hours is 12.
  • From there, determine how many days a year the lamp is used. Ignore the major holidays, and the amount of days is 360.
  • Consider the electricity rate. This rate will vary based on the region and state, but the cost is $0.12/kWh on average.

Determine Per LED Lamp Savings

The key to finding savings is to look at each lamp. The equation to determine this will be:

The wattage of the old lamp minus the wattage of the new lamp determines energy saved for each lamp

  • In the above example, 1000 watts subtracted from 240 watts comes out to 760 watts saved for each lamp.

Determine Yearly Run Time

You only have one part of the answer in determining savings. You need to consider run time for the actual answer. This equation is the following:

Daily run time multiplied by yearly usage to find the total yearly run time

  • In the above example, 12 hours of runtime multiplied by 360 days comes to 4,320 hours.

Determine Total Energy Savings

The above two steps give you the ability to determine total energy savings. At this point, you’ll be factoring in electricity costs that give the lamp the power for the noted amount of hours. In the above example, the 1,000 watts will be converted into kilowatts, with the equation looking like the following:

Energy saved with each lamp multiplied by yearly run time divided by 1,000 to get Total Savings of Energy

  • 760 watts of every lamp multiplied by 4,320 divided by 1,000, coming out to 3283.2kWh saved.

Determine the Dollars Saved

It’s great to know how much energy you’ll be saving, but nothing hits the psyche more than knowing how much money you are saving. How do you do this?

Multiply the electricity rate by the total energy saved to find the saved monetary amount.

  • 3283.2kWh multiplied by $0.12/kWh for savings of $393.98 for each lamp.

As you see, it’s pretty basic math to determine if you see any actual savings when converting to a more energy-efficient wattage. Use the formulas to find the answers to your questions about the products you currently have and looking to purchase.

Should I replace fluorescent shop lights with LED?

With the development of LED technology, LED lights have become more and more commonly found in working and living environments. If you are asking whether you should replace traditional fluorescent lights with LED lights, my answer is certainly yes.

First of all, LED lights are more energy-saving and power-saving. For example, the Lepro 40W LED shop light is equivalent to a 100W fluorescent shop light, which saves 60% on electricity bills.

Secondly, compared to fluorescent shop lights, LED shop lights have lower long-term usage costs. Although the purchase cost of LED shop lights is higher, it has a service life of up to 50,000 hours, are more durable than fragile fluorescent shop lights, do not require frequent replacement and installation, and are highly cost-effective.

In addition, fluorescent shop lights tend to emit the buzzing sounds of electric current or flickering light after long-term use, while LED shop lights will not give off such signs that are unkind or unsafe to the eyes.

As fluorescent shop lights contain mercury, which is harmful to human health and pollutes the environment, it is necessary to pay special attention when recycling them. On the other hand, LED shop lights are green and environmentally friendly and do not cause any pollution.

Therefore, many people have now replaced traditional fluorescent shop lights with LED lights. Here, we recommend two solutions. One is to replace fluorescent shop lights with brand-new LED shop lights, and the other is to buy LED tube lights, replace the fluorescent tubes, and re-wire the lights.

Best LED Fluorescent Shop Light Replacement

If you choose to replace fluorescent lights with LED shop lights, here we recommend the Lepro 42W 4-Foot LED Shop Light. The output brightness is 4200 lm, which is equivalent to 100 lm/W. It is suitable for lighting places such as garages, basements, workshops, supermarkets, and warehouses. If necessary, up to eight lights can be connected in series. The light comes with a five-year warranty and has passed ETL certification, so it is safe to use. In addition, there are opportunities to receive government energy subsidies to save on purchase costs.

When Should I Choose LED Can Lights?

LED recessed lights, also called LED can lights, LED downlights, are a type of LED lighting fixture embedded into the ceiling whose rays shoot downward. Installed in the ceilings of rooms without taking up much ceiling space, they make the room look and feel bigger compared to when using other lights for illumination. At the same time, since LED recessed downlights’ rays are cast directly downward, they can also be used as spotlights, extremely suitable for exhibiting artwork or for smaller reading areas. LED recessed lights are more concentrated relative to ordinary light bulbs, but compared to highly concentrated flash lamps, their rays are much gentler, which can create a cozier feeling. They are often used to illuminate such places as living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, basements, meeting rooms, corridors, shops, and hotels.

How to Choose LED Recessed Lighting Fixtures

So then how should we select suitable LED recessed lights? The most important things to pay attention to are size and color.

Size

First of all, if you are altering or replacing LED lights, then you should refer to your current illumination lights for the measurements of the LED recessed downlight that you select to purchase. If you are installing an all-new design, then you should also pay attention to the fact that the light emission effects of downlights of different sizes are also different. The larger-sized LED can lights have relatively higher power, and they will emit light more extensively. The height of the ceiling and the size of the area that needs to be illuminated will both influence the selection of the size. In addition, if you need multiple LED recessed lights to illuminate a room, the size that you select will also influence the quantity of lights required.

4/5/6 inch led recessed downlights

Color & Color Temperature

When selecting lights, we often will select warm white, cool white, or daylight white, with color temperatures varying from 2000K to 6500K. Everyone knows that the feeling created by the different colors and color temperatures of the lights will also be completely different. The color temperature value of warm white is probably 2700K-3000K, making people feel a kind of cozy, comfortable ambience, suitable for use in rooms such as bedrooms, living rooms, and kitchens. When the color temperature value is 4000K, 5000K, or higher, cool white or daylight white lights will make the room appear even brighter, suitable for use in such places as shops, offices, or conference rooms.

led recessed lighting

In actuality, you can select dimmable LED recessed lighting so that you can adjust the brightness of the lights based on the situation at different time intervals, feeling the most comfortable light illumination.

Apart from the size and the color of the lights, LED can lights’ parameters, such as brightness, power, and angle of light emission should all be scrutinized so that the most suitable lighting fixtures may be picked out based upon the actual circumstances.

Recommend the Best LED Recessed Lights

If you are searching for LED downlights that are suitable for use in bedrooms, living rooms, corridors, conference rooms, offices, kitchens, or other places, we hereby recommend Lepro LED recessed lights. At present, you may select 8.6w 4 inch LED recessed lights and 12.5w 5/6 inch LED can lights, and you can check out the product details to learn more.

The main highlights are as follows:

  • The product materials are handy, and installation is simple, as you can install them without requiring professional help.
  • The products are compatible with dimmers; they are dimmable, which saves on electricity costs.
  • There is no glare, and there is no flickering; they can protect the eyes very well, boosting comfort.
  • The products have been UL FCC ES-certified, and they have a 5-year warranty; they are guaranteed as safe to use.

How to Install Recessed Retrofit Downlights

The following video presents how to use LED recessed lights. Click to check it out in order to learn the steps in detail.

How to Install LED Recessed Lights

LED Recessed Lights VS LED Ceiling Lights

What is the difference between LED recessed lights and LED ceiling lights, both of which are lighting fixtures installed on ceilings? In terms of the installation position, LED recessed lighting are embedded into the ceiling without taking up extra space, while LED ceiling lights are hung from the ceiling without taking up a certain amount of space. Comparatively speaking, recessed LED lights will make the room appear bigger.

led recessed lights vs led ceiling lights

Second of all, the scenes in which they are used differ somewhat. In some rooms with relatively low ceilings, such as basements, hallways, and staircases, using LED can lights will not take up too much space, and it will not pose the extra threat of people bumping their heads. They are better suited for illumination.

In addition, as a kind of spotlight, LED downlights project their rays directly onto the floor. Their illumination is more layered in cramped areas. In particular, when they are used for exhibiting artwork, they can create different ambiences. And LED ceiling lights’ rays have broader range: oftentimes, it thus suffices to use 1-2 of them for illumination in a room.

No matter what sort of light fixture you select, it is most important that it suits the scene that you need and can satisfy your illumination requirements. If you would like to learn more, you can click to check out the LED recessed lights details.

LED shop light is a type of LED light commonly used in garages, workshops, etc. It has partly replaced fluorescent lights in the business world due to its environmental benefit, high efficiency, and durability.

Part 1. Key Points to Buy an LED Shop Light

Part 2. Integrated LED Shop Lights or Retrofit LED Shop Lights?

Part 3. How Many LED Shop Lights Do I Need for My Garage?

Part 1. Key Points to Buy an LED Shop Light

How do we choose suitable LED shop lights? Consider the following factors.

Brightness

As mentioned, LED shop lights have higher luminous efficacy than fluorescent lights and incandescent bulbs do. Using Lepro LED shop lights as an example, 4ft LED shop lights equals 100W fluorescent lights, with a brightness of 4000 lm and an efficacy of 100 lm/W. The efficiency of fluorescent lights is less than half of that of LED shop lights.

You can find LED shop lights with different levels of brightness on the market and purchase 20W, 30W, 40W, or higher power lights based on your specific needs to satisfy your lighting needs for various spaces.

Of course, whether the lights satisfy your lighting needs depends on illuminance. The IES file will inform you of the brightness and ranges of illumination for lights with specific power at different levels.

Color Temperature

different color temperatures feel different. For example, light bulbs with a color temperature of 2700K at home create a sense of comfort and warmth. In workplaces, the color temperature of the lights tends to be higher and energizes people.

When choosing LED shop lights, take into account the place where the lights are installed. For workshops, choose lights with higher color temperature, such as 5000K or higher. For places that don’t require deep concentration, you can opt for lights with lower color temperatures.

Daisy Chain

To install LED shop lights in big garages or workshops, you need multiple LED shop lights. Plugging each set of lights into a socket would make it difficult to install and use them, and connecting the lights would be more convenient. When choosing the product, check how many LED shop lights can be connected at once. You can connect 4 Lepro LED shop lights at most.

shop light connection

Price

When shopping for lights, budget is an important limiting factor. We suggest making many comparisons to find the most suitable LED shop lights.

We discussed many LED shop lights of different brands here, click to learn more.

Part 2. Integrated LED Shop Lights or Retrofit LED Shop Lights?

When choosing LED shop lights, many may wonder whether they opt for brand new integrated LED shop lights or replace their fluorescent tubes with retrofit LED shop lights.

For workshops without fluorescent tubes or those with enough budget, we suggest choosing integrated LED shop lights, which is easily installed at once. After selecting the suitable lights, you only need to install them once without careful maintenance due to the long service life of LED shop lights.

If you previously use fluorescent tubes and want to make use of them, you can also replace them to reduce costs, though with risks. Click here to learn about how to convert fluorescent tubes into LED lights.

Part 3. How Many LED Shop Lights Do I Need for My Garage?

As a garage is usually 250 square feet, how many LED shop lights do you need? You must determine this before purchasing to satisfy the lighting needs of your garage. You need to calculate the number of lights based on the illuminance required by your garage as well as reachable by your lights after installation. If your garage needs a minimum illuminance of 5Fc, check the maximum illuminance and range of your LED shop lights after installation to calculate the number of lights. We suggest using professional lighting design software like DIALux or AGI32 to plan for such large-scale commercial lighting needs.

buy the best led shop lights

We introduced some facts about how to purchase LED shop lights above. Check product details to learn more and download relevant IES files. You can import these files into DIALux or AGI32 to check if this set of LED shop lights meets your lighting needs.

Advantages of LED Shop Lights

Environmentalism – On the one hand, the LED lights do not contain any heavy metal materials like mercury and do not pollute the environment. On the other hand, LED shop lights have high luminous efficacy, which reduces energy waste and your electricity bills.

Durability – Compared to incandescent lamps, LED shop lights have a service life of 50,000 hours, and Lepro LED shop lights provide a warranty period of five years. They do not flash or produce humming electric sounds, protecting your eyes.

Easy installation and adjustment – Common fluorescent and LED tube lights are both fixed on the ceiling, making it difficult to install or adjust them. In contrast, LED shop lights are hung with a chain and you can easily adjust their height and location anytime based on your needs, which is more convenient.
