You’ll need to collect some general information. For example, you have warehouse lighting you want to retrofit. The metal halide lamp produces 1,000 watts. With the Lepro UFO high bay lights, the wattage is 240. 

• Determine how many hours per day the lamp is to be used. In this instance, the number of hours is 12. 
• From there, determine how many days a year the lamp is used. Ignore the major holidays, and the amount of days is 360. 
• Consider the electricity rate. This rate will vary based on the region and state, but the cost is $0.12/kWh on average.

Determine Per LED Lamp Savings 

The key to finding savings is to look at each lamp. The equation to determine this will be:

The wattage of the old lamp minus the wattage of the new lamp determines energy saved for each lamp

• In the above example, 1000 watts subtracted from 240 watts comes out to 760 watts saved for each lamp.

Determine Yearly Run Time

You only have one part of the answer in determining savings. You need to consider run time for the actual answer. This equation is the following:

Daily run time multiplied by yearly usage to find the total yearly run time

• In the above example, 12 hours of runtime multiplied by 360 days comes to 4,320 hours. 

Determine Total Energy Savings 

The above two steps give you the ability to determine total energy savings. At this point, you’ll be factoring in electricity costs that give the lamp the power for the noted amount of hours. In the above example, the 1,000 watts will be converted into kilowatts, with the equation looking like the following:

Energy saved with each lamp multiplied by yearly run time divided by 1,000 to get Total Savings of Energy 

• 760 watts of every lamp multiplied by 4,320 divided by 1,000, coming out to 3283.2kWh saved.

Determine the Dollars Saved

It’s great to know how much energy you’ll be saving, but nothing hits the psyche more than knowing how much money you are saving. How do you do this?

Multiply the electricity rate by the total energy saved to find the saved monetary amount.

• 3283.2kWh multiplied by $0.12/kWh for savings of $393.98 for each lamp.

This is in reference to the distance between light fixtures and determines how much light is distributed throughout a building. You don’t want to struggle for light in your building, obviously, and usually don’t have to because there is one basic rule on spacing: the Led’s height is noted as the space between them. By following this rule and using the high bay LED lights calculator, your business can have plenty of light. As the rule stands: 

• Lights mounted at 20-ft must be 20-ft. apart.
• Lights mounted at 35-ft must be 35 ft. apart.

What Total Number of High Bay Lights Should You Have?

LED high bay lights have numerous applications, including warehouse lighting and LED plant growth lights. However, you may be wondering how many of these lights you will need for your business. If your warehouse needs LED high bay lights, you have two options – replace the metal halide light or install new lights. 

Replace Current Lights 

If you opt for the upgrade option, be aware that LED high bay lights can save energy and, in turn, save you money even if it’s got the same lumen brightness. That’s because less power is being used: a 1000w metal halide light is similar to a 400W LED high lay light. If you need 8000 watts in an area, you need eight 400W LED light bay lights installed.

Lumen output is affected by the height of the area the light is needed. For example:

• 10-15 feet high needs 10,000-15,000 lumens of lights
• 15-20 feet high needs 16,000 to 20,000 lumens of lights
• 25-35 feet high needs 33,000 lumens of lights

Besides taking height into consideration, you need to consider the spacing for these lights. Too densely installed will add to your energy cost, and too far apart results in inadequate lighting. A good rule of thumb is 15 feet high light can brighten 12 feet of space. 20 feet high light can brighten 15 feet of space, with a normal brightness at 18 feet. 30 feet high light can brighten 20 feet of space with 25 feet of normal lighting.

• 20 to 29-feet high – If you want more lighting in the area, the light fixture distance should be around 20 feet. Again, standard lighting needs a 14-foot distance. A greater height means more LED high bay lights will be necessary. 

• 30+ feet – For businesses with high ceilings, the spacing for light should be about 20 feet to ensure brightness. For normal light and bright conditions, 25-feet of space is best, but the lumen output should be anywhere from 400 to 1,000 watts.

Step 1. Measure the length

If the LED light strip you bought is too long, you need to cut off the extra part. The first thing you should do is measure the right length. If you accidentally cut the strip too short, your effort will be wasted.

Step 2. Look for the scissors logo on the light strip

For the convenience of users, manufacturers have placed a scissors logo on the cuttable part of their LED light strips. To avoid causing damage, you must find the scissors logo before cutting.

Step 3. Cut with a pair of scissors

The final step is to use your scissors and cut the excess strip along the position marked by the scissors logo. If you accidentally cut diagonally, it may cause the light to stop working, so make sure you cut straight.

Q: I purchased a LED strip lights and used a portion of it, but I also want to use the remaining portion. Is that possible?

A: If the LED light strip you purchased can be cut, the remaining part that you have cut off cannot be used anymore. If you want to reconnect them after cutting, you must use an additional 4 pin connector to reconnect. However, if the operation is improper when you cut and connect, it may also cause the light strip to stop working properly. So we recommend that you double-check the length of the strip before cutting and avoid the need to reconnect after cutting.

If you need to reconnect LED light strips after cutting them, you need an additional 4pin connector. Generally, this product is not included in a LED light strip set and has to be purchased separately.

Step 1. Buy Lepro 4-pin LED strip light connector

There are many types of strip light connectors, so you need to choose the right one according to the type of light strip. If your light strip is 10mm wide, the 4Pin connector you select must be suitable for 10mm. If your light strip is 8mm wide and you purchase a 10mm connector, it will not work. Yet, the 4pin connects are the most commonly used. Step 2. Open the connector

If the connector has a cover, you have to open the connector on the side.

Place the two cut ends of the LED light strip into the fastening clips of the connector. At this point, you should check that they are not reversed by following the picture instruction.

Step 4. Cover the connector

After placing the light strip, close the cover of the connector and try to see if the light strip is lit normally after the power supply is connected. If the connected parts do not light up normally, try adjusting the connecting point between the connector and the light strip.

In general, it is somewhat troublesome to reconnect the strip after cutting. Not only do you have to buy additional connectors, but any improper operation may also cause the strip to become unusable. So it is best to make sure that the required length is correct and avoid wastage.

Q: Does a cut LED light strip still work?

A: Some light strips can be cut to a specific length and continue to work. However, they must be cut according to the cut mark. There are some tiny and precise parts on LED light strips. If you accidentally cut the wrong place, you may cause the light to stop working normally.

After cutting the light strip, you can place the required parts in the proper position and turn on the lights by following to these steps. The following steps use Lepro LED light strips as an example:

Step 1. Make sure the wall is dry and clean

If you need to attach the light strip to a wall, please clean the wall first. If the wall is dusty or wet, you cannot attach the LED light strip properly.

Step 2. Paste the LED light strip

After cleaning the wall, you can tear off the covering on the 3M super glue behind the light strip and paste it in the position you want.

Step 3. Connect the LED light strip

If you have purchased a LED light strip set, it should come with a connector and a controller. You should use the connector to connect the light strip and the controller. When connecting the light strip and the connector, please pay attention to the front and back. If the light strip is inserted backward, it will not work properly.

Step 4. Plug in the power and turn on the LED light strip

The last step is to connect the controller to the power supply, and you should see the LED light strips turned on.

After performing the above steps, if you find that the LED light strip is still not lit, check that there is no connection issue. If the set-up is normal, it means the light strip may have been damaged during the cutting process, so be careful and always cut according to the logo on the strip.

Simple Guide to Install LED Flood Light

Step1. Cut off the power

To start with, please turn off the main power for safety reasons.

Step 2. Connect the wires

After fixing the light components, connect the wires according to the mark of the fire wire, the zero wire, and the ground wire.
