What is the Difference Between an LED Troffer and an LED Panel?
LED panel lights are used to replace your existing fluorescent flush mount ceiling lights. They require less space due to their slim profile and flush mounting method. However, LED troffers are rectangular luminaires designed for modular ceilings. They usually require more installation space, but can come in a variety of styles.
How to Choose the Type of LED Panel Light?
The type of flat panel LED light to install depends on the size of the space you want to light. Panel lights are available in 3 different sizes for adaptable installation in ceiling grids: 2X2, 1X4, 2X4.
Additionally, you can choose from two configurations of LED panel lights:
Edge-lit Panels
LED chips are placed on the sides of the panel for a thinner profile. This type of panel LED light is more expensive and uses more power than other types of LED lights.
Backlit Panels
For this type of LED panel light, the LED chips are placed on the back of the frame, not on the edges. This enables the LEDs to emit light directly through the diffuser. Because there is no lampshade, there is no need for directional lighting. Also, there is no glare as the diffuser smooths out the light. Backlit panels are faster and less expensive to manufacture than edge-lit panels—another reason they are so popular.
What are the Benefits of LED Panel Lights?
LED panel lights have many advantages over their fluorescent predecessors. These benefits include:
1. Higher Energy Efficiency.
2. No Harmful UV Rays: Unlike fluorescent bulbs, LED lighting doesn't produce UV light.
3. Longer lifespan: LED panel lights can last up to 50,000 hours.
4. More Effective: Flat panel LED lights are directional, putting the light where you need it. Fluorescent bulbs radiate light 360 degrees, with only a small percentage hitting the area directly below.
5. No Flicker.
