Rather than using harsh overhead lighting, LED table lamps in the living room may be used to create a warm and inviting ambiance while also serving as a decorative accent.
Table lamps with adjustable heads are perfect for task lighting like reading, writing, or other work, and are thus a need in multipurpose rooms such as the living room, where they are more commonly employed as part of a layered ambient lighting scheme.
Sideboards, shelves, and bookshelves may all benefit from the illumination provided by table lamps, allowing you to create the ideal atmosphere in your living space. In fact, while not in use, modern and contemporary table lamps make a design statement that enhances the visual value of your home.
What Spot in the Living Room is Best for a Table Lamp?
A table lamp is most useful in the living room when placed near a comfortable seating area, such as a couch or armchair, and used for reading. If your living area already has artificial lighting like a floor lamp or wall lamp, the table lamp should complement other fixtures rather than compete with them.
The fact that table lights are so easily relocated is their greatest feature. The flexibility and convenience of table lamps make them a welcome addition to any living space. They go well together and help provide harmony and proportion to the living space. When placed on each side of a sofa or fireplace, they can make any space feel more comfortable and homey.
5 Lighting Options for Living Room Tables
Lepro Smart LED Table Lamp
Lepro is a smart table lamp that works with Google Home and Alexa (Echo, Echo Dot, and more). This allows you to control the lights with just your voice. Customize the scene’s color palette and intensity to suit your mood with access to 16 million hues. With its warm to cool white light (from 2700 to 6500 kelvin) and adjustable brightness, it’s perfect for everyday illumination.
The free “Smart Life” app allows you to manage your home’s lighting before you even get there. This smart nightlight connects to 2.4GHz WiFi with the help of an accompanying mobile application, so there’s no need for a hub or gateway. All you have to do is turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone.
Dowsing & Reynolds Asteria Table Lamp in Pearl White
This table lamp has a diffuser that softly cascades the light downward and an integrated LED panel (so you don’t have to search for a suitable lightbulb).
The light may be dimmed from its brightest setting to provide a relaxing atmosphere or brightened for use as a reading lamp. The robust overhead shade also ensures that you won’t be blinded by the sun regardless of whether you choose to read while sitting up or lying down on the couch.
The built-in USB charging port is what really makes it unique, though. Since the light isn’t required for the USB port to work, we found it to be extremely useful for charging phones or smartwatches after dark. The lamp is also available in a striking anthracite grey, but we thought the pearl white shade looked more at home in a living area, especially when paired with the gold stem and base.
Cox & Cox Deep Sage & Brass Desk Lamp
This simple small light is perfect for those of us who use our living rooms as offices. It may be used as a desk lamp by day and as a bedroom lamp at night because of its compact size and its sturdy shade that blocks out light when you’re reading in bed. Its rich dark green and brassy hues may be a reference to the classic banker’s lamp, but they also meet the criteria for the ever-present botanical fad. The black fabric covering the cord, the in-line rocker switch, and the long length of the cable make this an attractive product.
The only possible negative is that your options for bulbs will be somewhat restricted because this lamp requires a small E14 lightbulb (our LED candle bulb was just a little too long), and you’ll undoubtedly need to remove the shade every time you do. While it is 40 cm tall, we consider its size to be perfect. It fits well on both small and large bedside tables, and its 15 cm flat base hardly takes up any room.
Cobalt Blue and Stone Glazed Pooky Lottie Table Lamp
Pooky’s Lottie lamp, which combines the well-known urn form with a striking stripe, is likely to be appealing to people who appreciate traditional designs with a contemporary twist. This bedside version is suitable for individuals with little space but who are reluctant to give up flair. It is 13 cm shorter than the original but nevertheless exudes the same charm that has made it one of the company’s bestsellers. There are several available colors to match your bedroom. Its overall height was 45 cm when we tried it with a straightforward silk shade with pleats.
The bayonet fitting allows for easy bulb replacement, and the substantial flex wrapped in the fabric creates a luxurious look and feel, both of which are useful for people who don’t have a plug next to their bed. There’s room for up to a 60W normal bulb, but we got by with a 5W energy-efficient bulb and it was plenty bright to read by.
Dunelm White Ecomix Table Light
Dunelm is an unlikely place to discover environmentally friendly options, but their edited life collection is quite remarkable. The base of this lamp is made from recycled paper, making it an ecomix design. This makes it easy to transport, despite its appearance of being handcrafted pottery. It features a white fabric shade, which is a nice touch, but the black fabric-wrapped cable takes away from the handmade aesthetic. It is a good size for a bedside light, standing 44cm tall with a 14cm broad base; however, the inline controls are located somewhat far down the cord, making it difficult to switch on and off in the dark.
Even with a regular bulb installed, the shade was large enough that it did not glare down on our reading material from above. To adequately illuminate tables in the living room, it suggests a maximum 9W screw-in candle LED bulb.
This collection of living room lighting suggestions is intended to spark some inspiration and perhaps even some new ideas. Layered lighting and controllable brightness should be top priorities when selecting lighting fixtures. You have an almost infinite number of possibilities, from striking statement pieces to simple table lamps to sleek ceiling fixtures to flashy LED accents.
