What is LED High Bay Light?

As their name implies, LED high bay light is used to illuminate spaces with high ceilings. It is widely used in large indoor spaces like warehouses, garages, workshops, factories, and etc..

LED High Bay Lights Provide Many Advantages

LED high bay lights offer several advantages over traditional high bay lighting solutions, such as metal halide, high-pressure sodium, or fluorescent lights. These advantages make LED high bay lights a popular choice in spaces that require efficient, high-intensity illumination, such as warehouses, industrial facilities, gymnasiums, and big retail stores. Here are some key benefits:

Energy Efficiency

LED lights are much more energy-efficient compared to traditional lighting technologies. They use significantly less power to produce the same amount of light, leading to reduced energy consumption and lower electricity bills.

Longer Lifespan

LEDs have a longer operational life. While traditional high bay lights might last for 10,000 to 25,000 hours, LEDs can last for 50,000 to 100,000 hours or more. This reduces the need for frequent replacements and the associated maintenance costs.

Improved Light Quality

LED high bay lights often provide better light quality in terms of color rendering, color temperature, and luminous efficacy. This means that the light is more appealing and effective for human eyes, enhancing visibility and comfort in the lit space.

Instant On and Off

Unlike some traditional high bay lights that take time to warm up, LEDs reach full brightness instantly. This is particularly useful in situations where lights need to be turned on and off frequently.

Dimming Capability

Many LED high bay lights are dimmable, offering flexibility in controlling light intensity. This feature can lead to further energy savings and allows for a more customizable lighting environment.

Reduced Heat Emission

LEDs produce less heat compared to traditional lighting technologies. This can be a significant advantage in environments where managing ambient temperature is important.

Environmentally Friendly

LED lights do not contain harmful substances like mercury, which is found in some fluorescent and HID lamps. They also reduce carbon footprint due to lower energy consumption, making them a more environmentally friendly choice.

Durability

LEDs are more resistant to shock and vibration compared to glass bulbs and fragile filaments used in traditional lighting. This makes them more durable and suitable for use in environments where they may be subject to rough conditions.

Better for Controlled Environments

Due to their low heat emission and precision lighting, LEDs are ideal for use in areas where control of environment and light is crucial, like manufacturing facilities dealing with sensitive products.

Design Flexibility

LEDs offer great design flexibility due to their small size. They can be used in a variety of applications and can be easily integrated into different designs and layouts for optimal illumination.

What is the Difference Between a High Bay and Low Bay Light?

High bay lights are usually applied on ceilings ranging from 15 feet to approximately 45 feet. Meanwhile, LED low bay lights are used for ceilings 15 feet and under. Because a high ceiling location has more space to illuminate, LED high bay lights are always made as powerful light sources that can brighten up a large area.

What Types of LED High Bay Lights Should I Choose?

UFO and linear fixtures are two major types of high bay light. Usually, it depends on your lighting area to choose the type. The differences are as follow:

1.1 Controllable beam angle to working area.
1.2 Easy to install.
1.3 Cool appearance.

2.1 Rectangular shape make it easier to light on rectangular working area, aisle, hallway and other rectangular area.
2.2 Wider beam angel.
2.3 No spotlight effect.

How Much Power Do High Bay Lights Use?

According to the requirements of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), illumination of common working areas is at least 10 foot-candles. Common working areas include such places as machine shops, electrical equipment rooms, carpentry shops, lofts, tool rooms, warehouses and so on. So, the suggested power and mounting height of the Lepro high bay for common working areas are as follows:

Suggested Mounting Height of Lepro High Bay

Product Suggested Mounting Height
100W UFO LED High Bay 12-18ft
150W UFO LED High Bay 14-22ft
240W UFO LED High Bay 19-28ft
165W Linear LED High Bay 16-24ft
220W Linear LED High Bay 18-28ft

If you are interested in more information, please kindly download our manual and find the image “ILLUMINANCE AT A DISTANCE”. You can find the illuminance level at a distance. You can also find the lighting area based on the beam angle.
Please kindly note that the beam angle means, the angle between the two directions for which the intensity is 50% of the maximum intensity as measured in a plane through the nominal beam centerline. So, areas outside the beam angle are light up as well, but the intensity is lower than 50% of maximum intensity in the center of the high bay light.
